My son coughed up rust colored phlegm this morning. Should I be concerned?

He has done this in the past, usually in the mornings, but we were also living in a dry, dusty climate at the time. He has no other symptoms and had his tonsils removed one year ago today. This stuff is almost always thick and this morning was just real thick, brown rusty color.
