Gastric Byp....?

Why is it that people who have gastric byp surgery are not considered to be "starving" themselves?? I mean, they are only eating like a tea-spoon or so of food a day and if someone who hadn't gotten their stomach stapled did that, they would be anorexic!! Is there a reason that they do not get any of the syptoms that anorexics get??
